Blood Orange Margaritas

Inspired by National Margarita Day last week (Feb. 22 in case you want to mark your calendars for next year), I decided to make use of some clearance produce at my local grocery store — blood oranges.

Blood oranges are in season from December through May, so they’re a great winter citrus to brighten up your dishes and drinks with a punch of color!

Blood Orange Margarita

serves 1

Ingredients:
2 oz Tequila (I prefer Espolon silver)
1/2 of one Lime’s juice
1/2 of one Blood Orange’s juice
1/2 oz Agave syrup
Salt for rim

Directions:
Place some kosher or sea salt on a small plate or cutting board. Cut lime into wedges, and run one wedge along the rim of the glass. Turn the glass over and run through the salt to coat the rim. Squeeze lime juice and blood orange juice into glass. Add the tequila and agave syrup; stir. Add ice. (If you don’t mind pulp, you can simply muddle the blood orange wedges into your glass rather than squeezing them!) You can also garnish with a lime wedge or a strip of blood orange zest if you’re feeling extra fancy.
